Our accommodation will commence in the Southern Downs area of Queensland. We’ll own motels and houses to provide safety for those whom we help. The motels will provide immediate safety, and the apartments and houses will provide long term safety. Our Dwellings will all have security features to make sure that those whom we help feel protected.
Initially, we’ll offer a motel room for the mother and her children (and we’ll also provide housing for the pets) to move to. If the mother is strong enough to stay away from her abuser, she will be entitled to move into other of our dwellings. When a vacancy becomes available in more permanent housing of our own, then the group will be moved into whatever accommodation we can give them.
If we happen to be helping a man escape from a violent relationship, we’ll provide him a room in a safe-house for the men. DV isn’t just an issue for women. Men are the victims of it as well. There will be a solution for everyone. ♥
We plan (should the need arise) to shift the family group if there is any sign that the woman or her children are in danger. This is why the initial accommodation is of a temporary style.
It is well documented that many women who leave a violent partner are murdered in the first two months after having left. Hence, the initial accommodation will be in buildings that will be guarded by security guards and camera surveillance.
In order to accommodate the family pets we’ll have kennels, catteries and bird cages. On the roof of some buildings there’ll be a dog kennel and a cattery. At others the kennels and catteries will be in the yard. Birds can be kept inside the apartment or room, inside a cage. Many women fear leaving their violent partner in case he tortures, harms or kills the pets. Therefore we plan to alleviate this fear by providing the means for the woman to bring her’s and her children’s pets with her.
We will work in conjunction with community centres and Police Domestic Violence officers in order to help those who truly do need assistance.
